Washington selling cost
Washington’s real estate excise tax (REET) has a graduated state portion and a local portion. The amount depends on taxable selling price, classification, and property location. The Department of Revenue lists current rates and exemptions; the settlement agent can confirm the amount for the sale.
The seller generally pays REET. If it goes unpaid, the buyer is responsible, and unpaid tax can become a lien on the property. Your mortgage, liens, back taxes, and share of current property taxes are separate. When you sell to us, we pay the closing costs, including Washington real estate excise tax. Read Washington Department of Revenue REET guidance ↗
