In Michigan, the name on the deed does not always settle how a home is treated in a divorce. A home acquired during marriage can be marital property even if only one spouse is named on the deed. A court judgment may address what happens to the house.
A Michigan Judgment of Divorce does not change the names on a deed by itself. If a judgment awards the house to one spouse, separate deed paperwork may be needed to update recorded ownership. For a sale, the title company reviews the deed and any divorce judgment or other court order to confirm which documents and signatures are needed. A Michigan family-law attorney can explain what an order means for your situation; do not assume one person can sign for the other.
