Mortgage foreclosure and sheriff's sale
Michigan mortgage foreclosure auctions are commonly called sheriff's sales. A foreclosure by advertisement can lead to a public sale; the notices and property-specific facts determine the steps and dates. For this type of foreclosure, six months after the sale is the most common redemption period, but shorter and longer periods apply. Redemption requires the sale amount plus required interest and charges, not just the missed payments.
Before relying on a closing date or redemption period, have a title company or attorney confirm the sale status, exact deadline, and amount needed. An agreement of sale does not change the date by itself.
Read the Michigan guidance on stages of foreclosure and the statutes on public mortgage sales and redemption after sale.
