For transfers before January 1, 2032, Nebraska charges documentary stamp tax at $3.32 for each $1,000 of value or part of $1,000. The grantor—the person signing the deed—owes it by law, and the tax is paid to the county Register of Deeds when the deed is recorded. The taxable value is generally the full price paid, including loans the buyer takes over. Some transfers are exempt, including certain transfers between family members without payment and a personal representative’s deed transferring property to heirs.
Use the property’s actual transfer value and ask the title or closing professional to confirm the calculation and whether an exemption applies. After January 1, 2032, the rate is set to decrease to $2.32 for each $1,000 or part of $1,000.
When you sell to us, we pay the closing costs, including Nebraska’s documentary stamp tax. Your mortgage, liens, back taxes, and share of current property taxes are separate.
