Rhode Island Judiciary case information ↗Rhode Island selling costs
Rhode Island charges real estate conveyance tax when a deed is recorded. Since October 1, 2025, the tax is $3.75 for each $500 of the price, or any part of $500. The taxable price can include mortgage or lien debt that stays on the property.
For residential sales in 2026, the same rate also applies to the part of the price above $824,000. The threshold is adjusted each year. State law makes the seller responsible unless the parties agree otherwise.
Your mortgage, liens, back taxes, and share of current property taxes are separate sale items. When you sell to us, we pay the closing costs, including Rhode Island's real estate conveyance tax.
Read Rhode Island General Laws §44-25-1 (tax rate and who pays), §44-25-2 (exemptions), and the Rhode Island Division of Taxation’s 2025 rate notice and 2026 threshold notice.
